About Teresa Satterthwaite

I have not always led the life of an artist but I have always had an artistic life. For many years I worked in other industries and looked after my children. However for the last 25 years since my art degree, I have been a practicing artist, gallery owner, tutor, set designer and had an interest and worked in numerous crafts like mosaics and cross-stitch. I have sold my paintings and worked to commission and had a near sell-out show at the Herrick Gallery in Piccadilly in 2017. Then in 2018 I did an MA in Philosophy at Birkbeck College, London that has informed my thinking and art ever since.

More from the artist...

I believe an artist's 'style' should be irrelevant in these post-post- modern times. There needs to be a disciplined approach and perseverance in the act of creation, but different ideas and inspirations lead to different mediums, processes and techniques for me. Gone are the days, I believe when an artist needs to be defined in one genre, oeuvre, category or any other pigeonhole. If what an artist does moves, inspires or causes any kind of reaction that should be the goal.

What inspires me...

I am inspired by so many different aspects of life, of this planet we live on, this universe we are part of and our existence which takes the form of human experience but as to why there is something and not nothing, there is still and I suspect never to be a definitive answer in human terms. I create bodies of work where I find myself in a particular area of fascination and see where my imagination can take me...

As I am as passionate about philosophy as I am about making art. There are some things that can only be said with words. Chosen words to convey an idea or thought will from time to time find their way into this blog
